POPCORN NEWS
2009 Popcorn Sale! Plan It! Fund It! Do It!
Why Sell Popcorn?  Why do we sell popcorn? The single word answer is "PROGRAM". People buy your Scouting PROGRAM with a tin of popcorn as their investment in your Scouting unit.  Selling Trail's End Popcorn Can Provide the Ideal Year of Scouting by:  Giving your unit more money to spend on programs for Scouts, Reducing out of pocket expenses for parents, Eliminating the need for multiple fundraisers each year-allowing more time for Scout programs, Teaching Scouts communication and selling skills and helping them earn requirements for badges.

Encourage Scouts to fill up one take order form-These Scouts will once again be invited to Summer Waves water park on Jekyll Island and also earn the marshmallow blaster. Sell the Scouting Program first- People are "buying" the program for Scouts in their community! Make the sale FUN for the Scouts. The Okefenokee Area Council provides all the training, support, and forms you need; and your POPCORN KERNEL will be there to provide you one-on-one support for making your sale successful.

2009 TRAILS-END POPCORN SALE IS GOING STRONG
By now, your unit has recruited a unit popcorn leader for your unit & Scouts. The Okefenokee Area Council held three council 35% commission training meetings. We had Popcorn “Kick-off” meetings at all three Roundtable Meetings in August and distributed take order, prize forms and other materials. As a reminder, here are some things your unit can still do to have a successful sale: Set up a popcorn booth at your local football game. (Have samples out for public to taste), Sell popcorn at a retirement community, Set up a popcorn booth after church--ask minister to announce popcorn sale from the pulpit, have parents sell at work. (Take samples to taste if possible), sell at a community activity, place popcorn sale ads in your school, church, and community bulletin/newsletter, consider popcorn as an employee or customer “Thank you” gift at places of business and remember to suggest popcorn as a gift idea for the Holidays....friends, relatives, the mailman, etc.

The 2009 sale will be broken into three components, (1) Show & Sell/Deliver (2) Take Order and (3) Online orders.

Show & Sell/Show & Deliver is a supplement to and should not take the place of your unit’s take order popcorn sale. Show & Sell - Your unit secures a location and sets up a display to sell popcorn. This is usually a neighborhood store with significant customer foot traffic. Your unit must provide its own table, chairs, cash for change and signs. Be certain to secure permission from the store or property manager well in advance, since many competing organizations will also be reserving locations.

Show & Deliver - Your unit brings product in a vehicle to a neighborhood and the boys go door to door in much the same way as
the take order sale. The exception is that product is delivered and payment is received immediately, avoiding having to return to a
household a second time. You will need cash for change.

Online orders-Is only designed as a supplement to your sales program. Selling to anyone across the country will earn the scout 10% commission plus the total sales go toward the scholarship program, the $1500 Wal-mart $50 gift card and toward the Kernel Klub. Online sales will not count toward any of the 11 levels of prizes. Don't hurt your unit by just selling online. By using all sales techniques your unit will exceed last years final sales.

Show & Sell/Deliver should be scheduled from August 20—October 1.
